To some, it’s just water. To me, it’s where I regain my sanity.
I took time off from work last week for a much-needed vacation. I stayed home for a few days, but the travel bug bit me again. So, my husband and I decided to hop on the greyhound bus and visit a few more places in NYC.
The Plan
1. Seaport District
2. Financial District
Where We Stayed
NYC is only 3 hours away from us. We usually take day trips to the “Big City” to save some money because as you all know, NYC hotels can be costly. However, for this trip, we wanted to make the most of our time in the city that never sleeps.
I decided to book 1 King Room with City View at Holiday Inn Manhattan Financial District. The room rate includes breakfast, and the hotel is near the places we wanted to visit.
The front desk lady was so friendly, and when she told me that I’m in a “nice” room, I just thanked her and smiled. I didn’t want to expect so much because I’ve heard those words before from other NYC hotel staff and got frustrated the minute I opened my room door.
But she wasn’t kidding! We had a lovely room with a breathtaking view of the Hudson River.
Seaport District
Why the Seaport District?
My co-worker Tyrone grew up in Brooklyn and told me that one of his favorite places to hang out in NYC is the Seaport District. Though this area was heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the Seaport is quickly becoming one of the coolest spots in NYC.

We strolled around the Seaport and found our favorite spot – The Heineken Riverdeck at Pier 17.

Aah! What a lovely sight!
This is the perfect spot to just chill with a cold drink in hand. And, enjoy the gorgeous views of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge, and the iconic NY skyline. I couldn’t be happier. Cheers!
In my next post, I’ll share about our downtown adventures around the financial district. Thank you so much for reading. Till next time!

I’ve never even heard of the seaport district! Always looking for more NYC finds, I think that might be the next one I check out.

I only got curious about this place when my friend from Brooklyn mentioned it. So glad we check this one out. Hope you’ll enjoy your visit to the seaport district or south street seaport as much as we did. Thanks for reading!

These pictures are epic! I know this might sound weird, but New York just looks so real in your photos (which is amazing!) I think it may be because they are (or at least look as if they are) unfiltered. The colours of New York really pop in your post – I love it. The view from your hotel was fantastic as well ♥ I need this hotel next time I’m in the city x

Thank you, Ellie, ❤️❤️❤️ We got a new 35 mm 1.4 lens for our camera and we are really happy with the photos. I also used Lightroom presets with some of the photos. to brighten the night shots a bit. Though, I choose the ones that don’t mess up the true colors or quality of the photo.
I really love our hotel room, make sure to book ahead of time….. it’s way much much cheaper that way. Also, I noticed the room rates fluctuate. It was cheaper on Sunday and Thursday, so we decided to stay there on a Thursday. Hope you’ll visit NY soon!🗽🥰🗽❤️🗽😍

I second another reader, I’ve actually never heard of the Seaport District. I’ve been to NY a handful of times and I always go to the same places. This is definitely a good guide for those interested in other parts of New York besides the “usual” destination.

What a wonderful staycation! I lived in NY for so many years and I never enjoyed it like proper tourists. I need to go back! We keep talking about going back to NY and vacationing for a week. Do all the things we never did as locals!
I love the Seaport District and the Financial District. I haven’t been there for a long time!
Omg, what a beautiful view! The front desk clerk wasn’t kidding.
You have some beautiful photos. I love all the details.
